Thanksgiving Dinner

I know that Thanksgiving is over and everybody is excited to move on to Christmas, but I just had to post this. I was able to travel to Utah to visit my parents for Thanksgiving. I know that I have mentioned before that my mom collects every thing under the sun. Well, I walked into her living room, and on top of one of her display cases she had this "Thanksgiving Dinner" assembled with parts and pieces of her various collections. It just really cracked me up!

More Thanksgiving Decor...

On a Budget!!! Inspired by my big sis and by yet another wonderful Thanksgiving song over at the Graphics Fairy,...I came up with this. The other day Wendy posted some really cute Autumn decor blocks decoupaged by a friend and given to her as a gift. When I happened upon another sheet of Thanksgiving music, I thought I would try to do something similar to her blocks.

I found an old piece of wood in our scrap, and sanded it a bit. Printed the image from the Graphics Fairy. Painted the wood black and roughed it up a bit with sand paper. Then I decoupaged the image onto the wood, and when it dried I applied a coat of clear satin finish polyurethane. Last off I glued the ribbon around it and finished it off with a bow. I am sure that the whole project cost me less then $2-,and I really like the outcome.
My youngest son brought this turkey home from school last year and I set it aside in my projects box knowing that I would want to frame it and display it for the next holiday season. I bought a frame at the dollar store and painted it white. I used scrap-book paper that I already had, and...Voila!! Cute Thanksgiving decoration for $1-. Many of the crafts that children bring home from school can serve as really cute decor if framed or displayed just right. Then they have that extra sentimental bonus to boot! :)

Thanksgiving Decor

I really love Thanksgiving! I love what the holiday stands for, the fall colors of the decor, and the feel of this time of year. I love everything about it, but I think it gets ignored in the commercial scheme of things. I am partially pleased by that because all that Thanksgiving embodies is about love and hope, blessings and gratitude, family and spirituality, soo not commercial. But,...the nesting part of me likes to decorate for every holiday, and lets face it , cute Thanksgiving decor can be hard to come by. I stumbled upon this fantastic blog the Graphics Fairy. She has all kinds of free vintage images that you can download, printout, and stare at all day. Shaazam!!! I found this particularly fabulous little gem. What great Thanksgiving sheet music.

I used it for a project that was virtually free. Dug up an old frame that had lost it's glass and painted it white. (Love white frames because they make the color of the piece, and the wall color behind it pop.) Now I am thinking this one would have been better suited in a dark mahogany frame. I may have to repaint, but you get the idea. Used a couple sheets of scrapbook paper that I already had lying around to mat the music, tore and pasted the music, and THAT WAS IT!! I love a happy ending.

Monogrammed Pumpkin

Inspired by Kari and Kijsa's ever famous monogrammed pumpkin, I made my own....with a twist. If anyone remembers my carved and painted 'boo' pumpkins; I decided that I needed my own signature pumpkin as well. I sketched the "P" and the stars, carved them with an exacto and painted them with black acrylic. Of course it had to have ribbon. A Big, Green Ribbon!! I like this one because it just says 'fall'...like September through November fall, not just Halloween.

Tagged

I have been tagged by the artsy and mysterious Protege to do the "fourth of fourth". She explained that one should choose the fourth picture in one's fourth picture folder and describe it, plus tag four more people to do the same. This was the fourth picture in my fourth picture folder.
Odd I know, It was a project that my oldest son did with his friend. But... what perfect timing because it is nearly Halloween and Chicken Little happens to be the Halloween costume that I made for my son last year. I just finished this years Halloween costumes in time for the school Harvest Festival and was about to post them.

Last years costumes..............
This years costumes..................

Toon Link from Nintendo, and his friend dragon!!I am so glad that they are finished. Luckily my half pint and quarter pint don't care to wear costumes yet that can't be bought at the store for a decent price. Give them some time, right?

Lest you forget....this was a tag!! Now I tag..........Darlene, Meg, Julie, and Sandy toes. I hope we can still be friends. ;)
