Irony

My mom used to wear dresses similar to these ones. I vaguely recall looking through photographs of her when I was younger and making a certain amount of fun of her and "her clothing choices during her young married life". In fact I remember having quite a few really good belly laughs at her expense. (Thanks for always being such a good sport mom.) Come to find out later that she had been quite the fashion diva. Well,...recently I was at Target and guess what they had??? Some similar little sun-dresses made of a textured polyester very reminiscent of the 60's. Guess what I was admiring??....in fact I really liked them. Serves me right, eh?? :) If they weren't too immodest for my particular taste, comfort zone,...religion...:):),...I may have ended up coming home with one of them. Time is a funny, funny thing isn't it!!?!! Taste as well.
I love this one. It has a very Jackie O feel to me.

And this one feels so Audrey Hepburn. Who doesn't want to be Audrey for a day??
This one,...I just adore.....................sigh!

Just Felt Like It Part III

I made these little flower barettes out of felt. They are simple and sweet. I really like them and think that I might make more of them to stick in my etsy store. (assuming that said etsy store actually ever comes to fruition. :)) What do you think?? be honest,...I can take it........... :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WENDY!!!!! (or...flag day?)

My best friend/ big sister Wendy over at the Shabby Nest is celebrating her birthday today!! I painfully miss her and wanted to give her birthday wishes via bloggy love hoping that others would see this and pop on over to wish her a magical day as well.

When Wendy was little the family led her to believe that the Flag was flown on Flag Day (June 14th) because it was her birthday and the whole country just happened to celebrate it. :):) She really felt like a special little gal for years!!

No, we were not born in the 1800's. Our family was just a little 'different'. I am sure that this will come as a huge surprise to many seeing as how neither Wendy nor myself are the least bit quirky ;);), but our family did not take normal vacations. We would go on "antique car tours" and "mountain man rendezvous" where you had to dress and act the part for a week at a time instead. This was us with our papa thirty-um-something years ago.

This is when we both still lived in Utah and did everything together. sigh........I don't have a recent picture of us since I haven't actually seen Wendy for over three years. But,...this will be remedied come August. Happy Birthday big sis!! I Love You!!!

The count down is on............

So sorry my bloggy friends! The last week of school has me running around like a crazy woman!! I am sure many of you can relate. I have fun projects, ideas, and inspirations to share, but they all have to wait for me to have a few free moments to catch my breath. Don't give up on me!! :)

I WANT ONE...............

Let me take a moment to be shamelessly materialistic. (We all do it once in a while, right??) I have wanted a dress form for forever. Honestly, I have loved them for as long as I can remember. Preferably vintage, preferably rustic, and preferably larger than me so that she makes me feel skinny...(Just kidding...sort of. :)) I have never had the fortune of running across an affordable one and whenever I search them they are so pricey. (Just can't justify spending a lot of money on something for pure whimsy, ya know??! )
I really love her. I really appreciate the dark rustic look of her metal frame.

She's lovely, but I might start to resent her figure ;);).

These ladies would be welcome in my home.

She is probably my favorite. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there is just something about her.

So not what I'm looking for but she definitely made me smile.

I even like the plain old metal framed type.
So, my point is...........since blog land is such an excellent resource and wealth of knowledge,....if anyone out there knows of a dealer :), a dress form garage sale holder, or anything of the like,....I would be ever so grateful to be privy to that info!! Thank You soooo much and have a LOVELY WEEKEND!!!!

Little "Tab" Baby Blanket

So, if any of you have seen these cutest ribbon tab blankets that are floating around out there,...well little hands just love them. (So much so that my 15 month old kept trying to steal one from a 5 month old. So not cool!:)) Well they are just too adorable, and pretty simple to make. So I thought I would give it a try.
I just used two rectangles of coordinating fabric (approx 18" by 24") and made sure that one of the fabrics was really textured and fuzzy. Then I cut 20 pieces of ribbon about 6" long. I did four pieces of five different ribbons for a pattern, but my friend made one with all kinds of mismatched ribbons and it was adorable as well,...so just go to town!!

I was not even super careful spacing the ribbon. Just eyed it. I pinned the loops facing inside so that when you turn the fabric inside out they just pop right on out.

Placed the coordinating fabric on top and sewed it with about 1/2 an inch seam allowance just to make sure I caught all of the ribbon. (Remember to leave your opening to turn it. I left a corner because it was the biggest space between ribbons and I did not want to deal with sewing a ribbon into the finishing seam.)

Turned it inside out and whip stitched the corner closed. Really easy as pie and now my quarter pint doesn't have to bully littler babes out of their cute little ribbon-tabby blankies. Happy times!!
