Vintage Toys

It is Frugal Friday at the Shabby Nest so I thought I would post a few more of the treasures that were given to me by my mom during my recent trip to Utah. After all,...what's more frugal then free?I have a real fondness for vintage toys! The good old kind that did more than make a lot of noise, spin around, and light up. The ones that were darn near indestructible and really prompted imaginative play. Good solid metal, or brightly painted wood.

Toys just aren't made the way they used to be.

-wow,..........I am starting to sound like my dad................

............I digress...........

I have mentioned before that my mom collects everything under the sun. (Not exaggerating!!) One of the best things about her collections is her philosophy "If one is good,...ten is better." (My mom cracks me up.:)) So all of her collections are in multiples and often times she is happy to share.

On our last trip to Utah she gave me this gyroscope because my boys were fascinated with it. It is vintage and heavy duty. It spins for minutes after you let it go. Needless to say it has been a great source of entertainment around here.

But my favorite, which I was fascinated with, is this little metal wind up car. It winds up the 'old fashioned' way with a little metal key. Then it scoots off in circles all over your hard floors making the old clunky ring of a bike bell the whole time. What a wonderful little piece of the past. Thank You Mom!! And,...Happy Frugal Friday to everyone!!

The gyroscope is really interesting...I'd never seen it before...where was Mom hiding that?

As for the little bike...I love mine too. It really is darling!

If one is good...ten is better....does that go for kids too? ha ha ha!

Ah, I love vintage toys; the are like little time machines, or time capsules, as they can say so much about the time they are from. In fact, I recall almost all the toys you list here; how old does that make me.;))
Here we have many toy museums in Denmark and they are very popular.;)
Have a wonderful weekend Holly.;)
