So many other things first...

I was talking to a friend recently about how my blog is so
sorely neglected.
She is a good friend with good insight.
One of those people that you can just talk to,
...bounce ideas off of,
...blow off steam with,
...and voice concerns to.
She asked me a simple but good question.

"Do you enjoy your blog or does it cause you stress?"

I have been thinking, and I have decided... both.

I enjoy having a place to put my ideas. To document finished projects.
To get opinions from others.
Honestly... my favorite part of my blog is the convenience of
my side bar. I visit my own blog nearly every day just to bounce off of it to
visit all of you. To explore all of my other favorite places.

I don't enjoy feeling pressure that I should post something if I haven't done so
in oh... say 2 or 3 months.
(Not that I would ever let that happen.)

I only ever created the blog as a haven for when my creative juices are most active.

I thought about deleting my blog.
Thought hard about it...
and almost did it.

Than I felt a sense of loss.
Real loss.
That was something that I didn't expect.
I sometimes get attached to a work of art that I have finished and it is hard to sell it,
or give it away... and I joke that they are like my babies...
but I didn't realize that I was attached to my blog.

So I decided... no... I am not deleting you... my little
under nurtured,
but adored blog.
But, I am not much of a blogger.

I have discovered that I am all of these other things.

I am...
First a mom, a wife, and a Latter Day Saint.
Next a friend,
Next an artist,
a cook (not by choice :) )
a housekeeper (""")
the doer of laundry
the chauffeur
the book keeper
the homework editor
the hairbrush er
the sock and shoe finder
the referee of sibling rivalries,
a journal writer,
jewelry maker,
clothes mender,
band aid putter on-er,
back tickler,
etc.
etc.
etc.
and then... a blogger.

I really appreciate so much my little band of followers,...
and I really appreciate the few hits and comments that I do get.

So, I am not deleting my blog that I have a soft spot for.
I am, however, from here on out...
owning that it is at the rock bottom of my priority list.
I will not promise myself that I will do better about updating it.
Nor will I feel guilt, pressure, or stress if I go 2 or 3 months (not
that I would ever let that happen) without posting.

So.... if ANYONE is still with me it is opinion time.

I have been "lightening up" my house over the last while.
Getting rid of some dark colors and tossing in bits of robins egg blue,
and lots of ivory and white...
little splashes of yellow and green.
Making it feel fresh.

My bedroom has had red accents for such a long time now. I am so over the
red. Downright sick of the red. I have gotten rid of most of it. The only thing keeping me
from redoing the whole color scheme are two original works of art by two different
people that I know personally. They are beautiful pieces and of course...
they are very heavy with red. My walls are taupe. My room feels heavy.

I think I have found a solution.
( I really wish I could remember what magazine
I found these pictures in so that i could give credit. oops. )

See how the red in these pictures looks really light and airy, even cottage-Esq when paired with yellow?
I propose this...
I paint my walls a very light creamy yellow,
add even more ivory and white accents, and keep the few red pieces that I already have.

What do we think?? Am I on to something?
Or is red and yellow soo totally yesterday? :)

I would REALLY appreciate your opinions!!

Thank You!!!

Dearest Holly, as the first one of your followers (I believe at least, your sis was pretty sure the first;), well then almost first!;), finding you when I just started to blog myself, I strongly urge you to never ever consider deleting your blog, again.;) Who cares if you post once every 6 months, as long as you are still here.;) It is not in the way to anyone, on the contrary, a beuatiful place to visit - and ultimately it is the quality and not the quantity that counts. Always.
As for yellow, to me the colour of the sunshine is always in. Warm and inviting. Beautifully fitting any kind of decor or a home.;)
On another note my dear friend, thank you so much for your recent visit and such an endearing comment! Yes, life can change in a blink of an eye.;) And I am getting slowly adjusted to have an extended family. The kids are teenagers by now, except for one, a small preteen boy. But I enjoy being an occasional step mom and I think they enjoying having an extra caring woman in their life.
Take care dear friend, until next time.;)
xoxo

I am in the same boat as you with the blog thing. It seems like a lot of people around me have been feeling that way, too. I'm just happy I get to see you in real life. :)

As for your room. I actually like the first picture with the light airy blue and the accent of red. That would be my vote.

Totally agreed with you on the whole blog thing. I've been neglecting it and when I feel like doing it, that's when I'll do it. Good for you. Loved how you expressed it. Keep your blog up as we may need to refer to it for past projects, etc. Wish I saw you in person more often!!!!

Lovely post Holls! You put your feelings so eloquently. I think as women we put too much pressure on ourselves as it is. A blog shouldn't be pressure if it's a hobby. So don't stress about it. Just enjoy it! (I'm with the reader who said they like the blue and red...me too.)

Holly....good for you at keeping your blog and not worring so much about it....I have seen so many posts like this lately.....about the red and yellow. I have the same colors in my home and with all the great new "lighter" color trends out there I too have been so tempted to change, but finally decided that I still love my red and have been lightening up some walls and keeping the red touches.....I love it too much to say goodbye......I think that I would miss my "warm" home....I found this by visiting some popular blogs who have gone "lighter" and thinking how pretty but "cold." in the end....we have to do what we love.....glad your still here...even if it is every few months.

I like the occasional pops of red on neutral decor. But there is something soul warming about yellow. I was looking through your blog when I came across the reference for your first pic -May 2006 Mary Engelbreit's Home companion. As for blogging, I find that I'm like that too. I've been absent all summer. Life was just full. Please don't delete your blog though, I just found it!

I just found your blog so I'm glad you resisted the urge to delete! I understand the "pressure" feeling to get a new post up. Sometimes my husband has to force me to go to bed while I frantically try get something up on my blog to keep up the meager traffic I do have...but at the end of the day...a blog is for release. Of thoughts, dreams, tension and always creative juices. Thanks for the reminder :)

Maybe you should think about getting guest authors for when you haven't uploaded in a while?

I'm an avid blog reader who appreciates all the time and energy that you put into your blog. I do believe that blogging is like anything (Facebook, for example) where you can be on fire for it in the beginning and then it can become a chore. Forgive yourself- you don't owe anyone anything, including an explanation. I will say that I am grateful that seemingly abandoned blogs I have loved following (Our Suburban Cottage and It's The Little Things That Make a House a Home, to name two) are still up & available for reference instead of being deleted. Just because you might not feel like adding new blogs doesn't mean that your previous blogs don't still have value to someone craft/decoration-challenged like me. You come first, the rest of us can wait.

In Home decor there is no rules...Whatever makes you happy. The colors you want :)
I have had a feeling for Shabby chic too lately. Although...i will never have a white couch until all the kids are out of the house...Sniff :)
Loving your cute blog :)
I am LDS too.

You put your feelings so eloquently. I think as women we put too much pressure on ourselves as it is. A blog is noting but the arranging each stuffs or tools here, is great knowledge.
