A 'Flower Shower'

Last Saturday I helped with a baby shower. My friends Portia and Jen get all of the credit for the super clever ideas that brought this one together. They decided to throw it at 9:30 am (yikes) and make it for breakfast. That turned out to be a HUGE hit, and everyone was bright eyed, bushy tailed, and loved it!

We decorated with big old flowers free-handed out of 12 by 12 scrapbook paper. (my only idea)

Adorable cookie bouquets. (courtesy of Jen)

We made baby hair flowers and bows for the up and coming baby girl instead of playing shower games. Portia displayed samples by hanging them from her chandelier. It was so cute!!! It just screamed girly-ness!

And of course....CHOCOLATE!!!

Wardrobe Embellishment Part III

Are your flip flops boring??

Embellish them!!!! :)

Hot glue and flowers from the craft store are an easy fix.
These ones I sewed by hand and topped off with an over sized button and embroidery floss.

Summer is already hot, but not always in the right way! Why not spice it up? LOVE THE CUTE FEET!!!

Absentee Blogger

I'm sorry I have been busy,.....in the most fantastical way!!! As many of you know (because my big sis spilled the beans)...Wednesday was my birthday. Well,...it was the best birthday of my now 35 year old life!!!!! (Not even exaggerating!!) My husband and two of my dear friends have been in cahoots for months. How could I be so clueless, you ask?? I am still trying to figure that out myself. (I think that all of the people dearest to me are really good liars!! :):)) I was taken out to lunch by a few close friends and in the midst of our frolicking one of my dearest friends in the world (from Utah), whom I am lucky to see once a year, came up behind me and asked if she was too late to join us. I (according to all standers by because it is all a blur to me now) did a double take, gasped, screamed, and made everybody at Mimi's stare as I jumped up, hugged her and started to publicly sob. The first thing out of my mouth was "how long do I get to keep you?" (Just assuming that she is like MY gift!!!) TILL MONDAY she says. I think then I cried more, and we chatted laughed and gorged our way through lunch. Needless to say I have been playing soooo hard this week, and will continue to play until Monday evening.

It all sounds so silly while typing this out, but I felt like the girl in the movie when this event took place. They made me feel like the most important person in the world, and I am sooo grateful. It is like a once in a life time fairytale experience. Two months worth of emails were exchanged, Calls were made, flights were debated, and plans were orchestrated all while I was in my own little world of laundry and adding up weight watchers points. My husband has taken time off of work and been mister mom so that we could shop, dine, watch movies, and eat chocolate. (Ya,...weight watchers points,...Not So Much!!!) They made my birthday, which I was sort of dreading, into a whole week of celebration. Thank You JENNIFER EAMES....(who by the way had the nerve to call me the day before she flew over to as me if "I was going to do anything fun for my birthday or stay home and wallow in self pity?") STINKER!! Thanks to my sweet sweet hubby and my other best Jen (Frank) friend who was in on all of the conniving plotting. I feel so loved!!!

Wardrobe Renovation Part II

Four shirts that I never wore are now........................

Two shirts I just ADORE!!! I know that they are very girly and frilly. Possibly even a little 'clown'-esq, but LUCKY ME that is exactly what I clothe myself in on a daily basis!!! :)

So go find some of your clothes that just aren't doing it for you and see if you can't just spice them up a bit. Everybody needs some sassy in their wardrobe.

May I take a moment to VENT..........

For the last several months I have been sewing with a broken presser foot on my machine. I have gone to some ridiculous lengths such as slipping paper underneath the side of the presser foot and hoping it will slide along the fabric to taping it up to try to keep it from catching on the fabric. So, try to laugh off my ignorance and tell me, can one replace just the presser foot on their sewing machine? And, if one can replace just the presser foot, can any one tell me where one could find said presser foot? Thank you soo much bloggy friends!! I love having such a fabulous resource.

A Few New Bows,...and Wardrobe Repurpose......

A few friends and I got together today to make bows. Yes, more bows!!! One can never have too many bows. :)

I don't know if anyone else has been feeling this way lately, but I certainly have. I open up my closet and.......SNORE........Everything in there is BoRiNg, boring, BorinG!!! I don't want to wear any of my clothes, and I don't feel like the state of the economy will really help me to justify buying any new ones. I rounded up a bunch of clothes to donate, and made a decision. I would take the ones with the most potential and try to make them into something that I would be more likely to wear. This skirt is my first and most simple re purpose. I will be doing a series of them over the next while. It was gaucho pants (which are adorable on girls with tiny little thighs, but not adorable on me.) I bought them on clearance because I loved the bohemian fabric and thought that paired with the right shirt I could make them work. Ya,...Not so much. I cut down the middle seems of the legs. Cut out the excess fabric in the hiney area, and stitched them back together to make a skirt. ( I took pictures of the process and managed to lose them in the many file folders of my computer...so sorry.) Still not my absolute favorite item of clothing, but much more likely to be worn now. One down, about 5 to go. Wish me luck!!!

Place Mats to Pillows

For those of you who have already seen this post,...I just added it to Thrifty Thursday at Bloggeritaville. Go check it out...lots of fun finds!! (Who doesn't love a bargain???)

I have been searching high and low for quite some time now for the perfect accent pillows for my half pints bed. She already had a beautiful comforter and one decorative pillow, but I could never find the finishing touches. They were either too big, too small, too expensive, too frilly, or just too......................!!!! When I finally found them they were place mats. (miner set back) They were perfect! A set of 4 for $10.-!! After buying some inexpensive batting the whole project cost me approx $12.50, which is not bad for 2 pillows.

Even more fun, they were reversible with two complimentary patterns. I decided to keep them that way so that if we ventured into that 'oh-so-pepto-bismal-tooo-pink-it's-a-girl-thing' stage,...we would already have the perfect pillows! :)

I sewed them, stuffed them, and finished off the seams.

I love them! I would never trade my boys for ANYTHING, but sometimes having little girls is like actually living in the fairy tale. Bliss!!

I am also so excited to add that this post was featured on One Pretty Thing! THANK YOU for the honor!!!
